About me
How I became a guide...
The beginning of my career goes back to the times when I was about seven years old.
In autumn and winter weekends I used to walk with my Dad along the streets of the Old Cracow, because we used to participate in tours organized by Cracow Society for History and Culture led by professional guides. It was then when I saw for the first time amazing interior of the Royal Cathedral hiding strange silver coffin which holds relics of the Saint inside. On yet another walk I learned that king Kazimierz the Great funded many churches to atone for his order to kill poor priest Baryczka (drowned in the Wisła River). During those tours I discovered that in mysterious crypts of the church on Reformacka street we can see real mummies and that on the other side of the cemetery wall on Szeroka Street our Cracows Wailing Wall exists. I've grown up fascinated by beauty of this city, its monuments, cultural life, revealing stories behind the walls...
How I became a tour leader...
When I was very young I was dreaming about long journeys abroad, just as most of my country mates locked behind the Iron Curtain. In the 80's it was almost impossible to cross the border and go even to neighbouring countries like Czechoslovakia. At that time no one could have anticipated that someday the wall would collapse and the world would open for us. That it would be possible to visit other, even very distant, countries. Since borders were opened, I started to organize foreign trips for me and my friends and finally I decided to turn professional. Now I meet people who are traveling to Poland and it is an adventure itself, because it gives me an opportunity to see the places I know very well with different perspective and broaden my horizons.
How I became a historian...
I am sure that love to my hometown and dreams about travelling around the world, getting to know other places and understanding them led me to study history at the Jagiellonian University, the oldest university in Poland. Studies allowed me to take a closer look at circumstances which determined the past of my country and to understand stories behind the walls better. Today, combining my passions for the past, art, travelling and my city, I try to bring stormy history of Cracow and Poland closer to my tourists.
